Tags vs Categories

2008-08-20

Seems I can have both tag and category clouds in WordPress, sweet! I know that tags can be sprinkled anywhere in posts, but what about categories? I see that categories can be hierarchical which tags cannot do by design.

I get a checkbox list of categories when creating a post. I’m putting this post in every category except “Uncategorized”

I have to enter tags manually, separating them with commas. I sure wish it could give me a list of my currently used tags. Perhaps I just haven’t found the list yet…   Ah, it has a type-ahead in the tag textbox for currently used tags, but you have to know the first letter of the tag. Better than nothing.

Tag Cloud

2008-08-20

I’d like my blog to have a tag cloud, but I just cannot figure out how to do it. I saw someone else’s blog using the Blix theme and it had a tag cloud. Perhaps a cloud is part of that theme…

Caralyn and I

2007-12-15

Today, I showed Caralyn my blog. She thought blogging sounded interesting and she may start one of her own. I told her that WordPress is the best free blog company on the Internet.

Smoke Alarms

2007-12-13

Install smoke alarms on every level of your house. For the best detection and notification, install both ionization and photoelectric-type smoke alarms; some models provide dual coverage. Put alarms inside or near every bedroom. Test them monthly to make sure they work. Put in new batteries once a year, sooner if the detector starts chirping. If your alarms are hard-wired, make sure they have battery backup in the event of power disruptions. Smoke detectors for the hearing-impaired are available on the Internet.

Update on Wine Tasting Party

2007-09-16

I found my rating sheet for the wines we tasted at Amy & Jeff’s party. The wines were Cabernet Sauvignon. Each person/couple brought one from an assigned country. Amy recommended the World Market near 417 & Rinehart Road as a good place to buy wines. Here is the list of wines we reviewed less one I can’t remember:

  • Beringer’s Founders Estate 2004 – California
  • Zolo Reserve 2004 – Argentina
  • Yellow Fin – Australia
  • Bella Sera – Italy

The winner was the Beringer’s with Zolo as close second. I also liked these two winners in that order. The Bella Sera was good, but a little too fruity for me.

PEBKAC — a funny acronym

2007-09-13

Having trouble with your computer? Maybe the problem is PEBKAC…

PEBKAC = Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair

I heard Chris Pirillo use this acronym on his video podcast today.

Cheaper Auto Insurance

2007-09-12

A friend told me about a company that wants to move into Florida for auto insurance. Their web site is here. For us the premium was $530 for both our vehicles for 6 months.

Hogan Wine Tasting Party

2007-09-9

Last night Desiree and I went to my sister and brother-in-law’s home for a wine tasting party. We had a great time being out as a couple rather than a family and interacting with adults only. While I would trade parenting for anything, it is nice to get away with just Desiree and I. We don’t get to do this often enough to make me happy and it wears on the relationship.

Good Day

2007-09-2

Just like the song, it’s been a good day. I should be doing Franklin preparation but I’ve been playing with a WordPress avatar and installing OneNote 2007 on Northstar.

New Software

2007-08-27

The new software I purchased through e-Academy arrived today. Unfortunately, I was under the weather and didn’t feel well enough to install it. I spoke to Vista Developers about a trip to North Carolina in October to see some land. I told him that we needed to wait until next summer as this year won’t work for us.
